This is probably the same bug as in <https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=531002#44>. I just set NOTIFY_NEW to 0 and will see this evening whether that helps. I have no idea why "apt-get dist-upgrade" pulls in these packages though, it's not like they are Essential or Required.
