This is a correction to the procedure described above. Instead of adding the lines to lightdm-greeter, > -auth optional pam_kwallet.so > -session optional pam_kwallet.so auto_start should instead be added to /etc/pam.d/lightdm (without "-greeter" in the name).
Please note the leading minus sign in the lines above. They avoid logged errors if the pam-kwallet package is not installed and the above pam_kwallet.so entries are present.
