It seems that GCC 4.0 has support for the M68HC11 and HC12
architecures. I'd appreciate if that source were used to create the
m68hc1x cross-compiler, instead of the older www.gnu-m68hc11.org.

gcc-4.0 does not really has support for M68HC11 and HC12. It's only the same support as GCC 3.3, and it has not evolved since then. It also lacks some patches from www.gnu-m68hc11.org which has not been merged upstream.

Please also note that www.gnu-m68hc11.org is not "old", it's where the development for the M68HC11 and HC12 is done, and there is some new releases regularly (twice a year, the last was in June).

So in short, I won't update gcc-m68hc1x to GCC 4.0 because I prefer an "old" compiler that works instead of a compiler that has not been tested and which is probably buggy for this target. That may change in the future, ie the author of this port may (will probably) update it to GCC 4.0 or GCC 4.1.

Bye,
Aurelien
