Package: tpconfig Version: 3.1.3-14 Severity: normal tpconfig utility does not work at all on kernels 2.6 and above, it is pointless to package it.
Post 2.4 linux kernels do not allow raw access to PS/2 ports that tpconfig requires, instead they provide faux /dev/psaux that pretends that there is an IntelliMouse Explorer attached to it and happily ACK any garbage userspace throws in it. As result tpconfig is convinced that every single box out there is equipped with a Synaptics touchpad and users happily file bugs in bugzilla.kernel.org insisting they have Synaptics touchpad.
