Starting with 2.18, tau has dropped support for old tk-based GUI, the build of the new java-based one is mandatory (although that could be hacked out), and many new tools are written in java. Those java-based tools depend on particular versions of numerous jars which, although shipped in upstream tarball, cannot be used as-is for Debian: we have to build them from source. We will need a number of new packages, and the code for the tools will have to be updated when needed when the current version of 3rd-party tools have broken API compatibility. That's a hell of a huge job, I'll start to work on this after jessie is released, and hope to have upstream supporting this. Anyone willing to help please register in this bug ! In the meantime, I hope we'll have the last 2.17 release in for jessie - that's still code from '08, yes :( -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe".
