That's not really my favorite solution but this is how it was when I became an Uploader of Freeciv. I think we should make Freeciv a real package that depends on freeciv-client-gtk by default. I can't reproduce any black game screen when I launch the GKT3 client. Both clients can be launched separately and the package description is very clear about what kind of client should be preferred.
