Hello, This bug is not specific to Exiftran. I can reproduce it with jpegtran, like you with gthumb : $ jpegtran -rotate 90 -outfile photo_rotated_of_180_right.jpg 0.3.jpg That's why I think it relates to the libjpeg(8/9) and I reassigns.
