Package: src:libextractor Version: 1:1.3-2 Severity: wishlist -----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA512
Libextractor uses a plugin structure by design. Debian packaging of libextractor however includes all plugins in same binary package. libextractor pulls in ~292MB (or ~166 excluding recommends) on a clean minimal sid/amd64 system. Without plugins gstreamer thumbnailgtk previewopus thumbnailffmpeg or rpm, libextractor would pull in ~31MB (or ~23MB excluding recommends). Additionally leaving out remaining glib-requiring plugins ole2 or rpm, libextractor would pull in ~13MB (and same ~13MB excluding recommends). Please therefore consider the following, both to allow more lightweight installations (e.g. on a tiny FreedomBox running gnunet), and to encourage adoption of libextractor in non-GTK+ applications: 1) Introduce new binary packages * libextractor-plugins-misc (includes midi and ole2) * libextractor-plugins-libav (includes previewopus thumbnailffmpeg) * libextractor-plugins-rpm * libextractor-plugins-gtk 2) Have each plugins package provide virtual libextractor-plugins 3) Have libextractor3 suggest each plugins package and virtual package. 4) Have extract recommend each plugins package and virtual package. 5) File bugreports against reverse dependencies to do 3) and/or 4). Step 2) is to encourage packaging of 3rd party plugins - Jonas -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1 iQF8BAEBCgBmBQJUWOLcXxSAAAAAAC4AKGlzc3Vlci1mcHJAbm90YXRpb25zLm9w ZW5wZ3AuZmlmdGhob3JzZW1hbi5uZXQ3NjQ4ODQwMTIyRTJDNTBFQzUxRDQwRTI0 RUMxQjcyMjM3NEY5QkQ2AAoJEE7BtyI3T5vW7owH/3Jkf5TBdohpYg1l2ojcloMG WSsR96tgPU7Y4OxVrlPZeoScRjZXPn0/CNpiE8scwFKTgaRknVPHUNWds9zOTIwL 2Xzr27OKvcxzKa+QQp1+W9l+D77Tho81mnfOypnWcnMTNuhGNTBU92z7v+Y3Qf5K S95WHKI7UVH1QNfJ2RuljblBfV4QAGYIm93AKuV4sV6Ht1e+lBJjtcgpW4+F/Bky 4MXcydawAvbSGb9orNtT7mmh57IyYhSt6RtRA2/wpl8U8zlUabipVig7DRMgtqIZ NmwW/Yg5zwEYI5XR/rjQBJ2qXqTiHFt8lDw+WPkRNQDT0oOizbe4xF/ym/ak1Bw= =Et8H -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [email protected] with a subject of "unsubscribe".
