EITHER Boot the default 2.4 kernel finds the CD-ROM but not the HDDs "no partitionable media" OR Boot linux26 fails to find the CD-ROM "No common CD-ROM drive was detected" Catch 22 A colleague gave me a copy of a ubuntu DVD to see if it could handle the SATA drives which it did successfully. I had successfully done a test install on old machine with an IDE drive. However on the DELL, installation proceeded normally until the error message.
