This last bit seems to be the key to the problem, the culmus fonts
between 0.93 and 0.101 changed their name and it is quite possible that
some programs were updated and some not.

I have no idea why you see varying results between machines i386 and amd64.

If you can provide a sample document I could try to see what happens on
my machine. And try to locate where the problem happens.
