Package: smartmontools Version: 6.3+svn4002-2 Severity: normal I have several disks configured in smartd.conf (see below) marked as removable, because they are in external enclosures that are not always powered on.
It would seem that specifying these devices as removable would be the right thing to do -- smartd will monitor them when they are present, but not complain when they are missing. This works on the initial device scan, but if it ever manages to get them open, then if they subsequently dissapear, a warning is generated. Test case: * Connect removable HDD * Configure removable HDD in smartd.conf with -d removable * Restart smartd * Disconnect removable hdd * Tell smartd to reload (kill -HUP / service smartmontools reload) This will generate an unexpected (to me) FailedOpenDevice warning. -- System Information: Debian Release: jessie/sid APT prefers testing APT policy: (990, 'testing'), (500, 'unstable'), (1, 'experimental') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Foreign Architectures: i386 Kernel: Linux 3.16-2-amd64 (SMP w/12 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=en_US.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Versions of packages smartmontools depends on: ii debianutils 4.4+b1 ii init-system-helpers 1.21 ii libc6 2.19-13 ii libcap-ng0 0.7.4-2 ii libgcc1 1:4.9.1-19 ii libselinux1 2.3-2 ii libstdc++6 4.9.1-19 ii lsb-base 4.1+Debian13+nmu1 Versions of packages smartmontools recommends: ii bsd-mailx [mailx] 8.1.2-0.20140825cvs-1 Versions of packages smartmontools suggests: pn gsmartcontrol <none> pn smart-notifier <none> -- Configuration Files: /etc/default/smartmontools changed: start_smartd=yes /etc/smartd.conf changed: /dev/disk/by-id/ata-WDC_WD1003FZEX-00MK2A0_WD-WCC3FC20KKEF -a -d sat -n standby -m root -M exec /usr/share/smartmontools/smartd-runner /dev/disk/by-id/ata-WDC_WD1002FAEX-00Z3A0_WD-WCATRA939434 -a -d sat -n standby -m root -M exec /usr/share/smartmontools/smartd-runner /dev/disk/by-id/ata-WDC_WD1002FAEX-00Z3A0_WD-WCATRC016990 -a -d sat -n standby -m root -M exec /usr/share/smartmontools/smartd-runner /dev/disk/by-id/ata-WDC_WD1002FAEX-00Z3A0_WD-WMATR1069840 -a -d sat -n standby -m root -M exec /usr/share/smartmontools/smartd-runner /dev/disk/by-id/ata-WDC_WD10EURX-63FH1Y0_WD-WMC1U6913232 -a -d sat -n standby -m root -M exec /usr/share/smartmontools/smartd-runner /dev/disk/by-id/ata-SAMSUNG_HD203WI_S1UYJ1RZ527566 -a -d sat -d removable -n standby -m root -M exec /usr/share/smartmontools/smartd-runner /dev/disk/by-id/ata-SAMSUNG_HD203WI_S1UYJ1RZ527572 -a -d sat -d removable -n standby -m root -M exec /usr/share/smartmontools/smartd-runner /dev/disk/by-id/ata-WDC_WD20EARX-00PASB0_WD-WCAZAE159862 -a -d sat -d removable -n standby -m root -M exec /usr/share/smartmontools/smartd-runner /dev/disk/by-id/ata-WDC_WD7501AALS-00E3A0_WD-WCATR1859257 -a -d sat -d removable -n standby -m root -M exec /usr/share/smartmontools/smartd-runner /dev/disk/by-id/ata-WDC_WD40EZRX-00SPEB0_WD-WCC4ENSLVF0P -a -d sat -d removable -n standby -m root -M exec /usr/share/smartmontools/smartd-runner /dev/disk/by-id/ata-ST2000DM001-1E6164_Z1E81X4X -a -d sat -d removable -n standby -m root -M exec /usr/share/smartmontools/smartd-runner -- no debconf information -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [email protected] with a subject of "unsubscribe".
