severity #771503 serious
thanks

Hi,

it would have been nice to get in touch with the Debian maintainer of
the package first, but if you don't want your package in Debian,
that's fine with me.

Web2ldap is developed at a fast pace, with new releases every few
weeks. In those process, "old" (read: not the latest) releases get
marked "historic" and upstream is likely to react to bug reports for
"historic" versions of web2ldap with a "please upgrade", which is not
possible in Debian stable. This release and support strategy does not
fit Debian's release and support schedule at all. It is unlikely that
there would ever be a version with upstream support in Debian stable,
which is the version of Debian that is likely to be used in production
LDAP environments, if at all.

I therefore agree that it is not a good idea to not have web2ldap in
Debian. It is a pity that I didn't acknowledge this fact before
spending time to package web2ldap. I apologize fro this shortcoming.

I have raised the severity of this bug to serious so that web2ldap
gets removed from Debian testing.

The proper procedure to get a package completely removed from Debian
is laid out in chapter 5.9.2 of the Debian Developers' Reference.

Greetings
Marc
