  I just realized that I should of course have included an example of what
ought to work and doesn't:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~/programming/aptitude/debian-experimental-outgoing$ darcs 
optimize --checkpoint -t '^0\.4\.1$'
Cannot checkpoint any tag matching '^0\.4\.1$'
Done optimizing!
