Hi, I spent hours and hours trying to create a reproduction case for anything other than cinnamon and couldn't do that. I think there was some change in GTK that requires a change in the internal "st" fork, but at this point it's not really possible to track down what that change has to be, it's not trivial at all.
Instead, the simplest solution is to "fix" this in cinnamon by disabling the shadows.
