I haven't looked at the code differences but my experience with
openscad in wheey is that it is quite unreliable.  If the more recent
ones are better, I think a backport would be a really good idea.

It might even be worth considering including a new openscad in a
wheezy update.  I'm not familiar enough with the possible downside
risk in 2014.03 compared to wheezy's version.  Would upstream be
confident that existing working designs wouldn't be broken ?
