We have encountered this bug on two Debian installations as well. Please
backport the fix because "cp" is widely used:

The patch itself consists of a few lines. A patched rebuild of the
current "coreutils" package from Wheezy is done seamlessly.
Once I installed the patched ".deb" package, I was no longer able to
trigger the read from freed memory bug using the PoC in the GNU bug report.
