There seems to be no problem:

       # apt-get source smartmontools
# diff smartmontools-6.3+svn4002/COPYING /usr/share/common-licenses/GPL-2

outputs no difference. The upstream copyright and the full license referenced are **exactly the same**. Verbatim. Word for word.
