Hello - the plan is to have 1.6+ after jessie and it is already to go.
However, we need updated licensing info from arduino:
https://github.com/arduino/Arduino/pull/2703

Also, the arduino-mk tool will have to be updated to the 1.5+ branch,
which that project has not done yet.

In the meantime, 1.5.6rc2 is packaged in experimental:
https://packages.debian.org/experimental/arduino
