I tried your suggestion, but the problem remains, exactly as before.
$ mozilla-thunderbird

Segmentation fault "$prog" ${1+"$@"}
Please note I can read the text of the e-mail by chooseing "Forward" or
"Reply to ..." on the message header, but on the first attempt to
left-click the header to read the e-mail, tbird crashes.
