Ignition transport library combines ZeroMQ with Protobufs to create a fast and
efficient message passing system. Asynchronous message publication and
subscription is provided along with service calls and discovery.

- why is this package useful/relevant?

Ignition is a set of simple libraries that provide useful functionality to
bootstrap robot applications. The included libraries encapsulate all the
essentials, such as common math data types, console logging, 3D mesh
management, and asynchronous message passing. 

- is it a dependency for  another package? do you use it? if there are other
  packages providing similar functionality, how does it compare?

It will be a dependency of gazebo, version 6:

- how do you plan to maintain it? inside a packaging team?

Inside debian-science team.

- are you looking for co-maintainers? do you need a sponsor?

Any help is very welcome, but I plan to create the package myself. My
collages in the debian-science team can help with sponsoring.
