Hi, Sorry, but this is not possible as long as mate-terminal is GTK+2 app.
Surely, MATE now has GTK+3 build possibility, but it's not ready for production yet.
And even if we'd build mate-terminal against GTK+3 libs and GTK+3 VTE, it still needs to depend on libmate-desktop-2-17 as it requires some functions from it. That package absolutely has to be built with GTK+2 because almost all components of MATE desktop depend on it.
