I encountered the same or a similar problem on my system. Trying to change printer properties with system-config-printer the part of the window showing the printers is greyed and nothing more happens. I can close the window normally clicking the "x". Duplicating printers and choosing standard printer are possible, but not after trying to change properties. Properties can still be changed by using lpoptions-command.
