4.0.4-1 and 4.0.5-1 gave me the same build failure as 4.0.3.-1 on
Jessie. I had to use the attached patch on these version to get
hdd-images working. Using version 5.x is still an option though, have
not tried that.

Could you elaborate on the core functionality? As I see (and use) it,
building an image (iso or hdd) is an essential part of the software,
without it there is nothing usable left. Would you classify an iso build
as core functionality but hdd-image not?
