You're reporting the bug against version 2.3, but say that qemu on your machine is not upgraded. I can't confirm this behavour, on any version of qemu I have ready to install, which covers versions from 1.7 up to 2.4. Tried two guests, windows7 and linux, both shows normal output with several screen resolutions higher than 1024x768. Please show details about your guest(s) which demonstrates this bad behavour.
