Without a dependency solver, aptitude would be not able to install any package which hasn't all dependencies already fulfilled by already installed packages. Do you by chance mean the automatic dependency resolver which is invoked at anytime you make an interactive package selection change in aptitude's TUI? If so: That one can easily be disabled in the TUI under Options → Preferences → Dependency handling → Automatically resolve dependencies of a package when it is selected or with setting 'aptitude::Auto-Install "false";' in either ~/.aptitude/config or /etc/apt/apt.conf.
