I'm not convinced by your argument that it just doesn't matter. In general we try really hard to perform install operations atomically and just waving the problem away because you think something else is a more important goal isn't particularly satisfying. I'll probably end up implementing it to go along with the crowd (and because it doesn't make much sense for one package to hold out) but I'm left feeling like this is another case of being loosey-goosey for the sake of shiny.
