If the latter, were > other parts of the system updated at that point and which ones? I did not often test the logout scenario (I'm the only user of the machine, and rarely log out, only lock). Still, I suspect that this started happening since the last system upgrade (I follow testing and do “aptitude full-upgrade” about once a week). In the last upgrade, neither xorg nor slim were updated (which is why I didn't blame it on slim), but systemd was.
