Thanks! If you do not have an _apt user, that appears to be the problem. If I do: $ grep -B2 _apt /var/lib/dpkg/info/apt.postinst I see that the postinst tries to create such a user. Is there anything unusual about your system that might prevent creating this user? Thanks, Michael
