There are around 100 GB free space in my home-partition and 3 GB in my root-partition available. I'll run memtest over night, but I really don't think that's the problem… I have no issues in other applications and, as I wrote in my original report, I can scan in high resolution without any problems in XSANE, which uses the same backend (SANE) as far as I know.
