$ dpkg -l | grep 'asound\|alsa-utils' ii alsa-utils 1.1.0-2 amd64 ii libasound2:amd64 1.1.0-1 amd64 ii libasound2-data 1.1.0-1 all ii libasound2-plugins:amd64 1.1.0-1 amd64 Although I did not need to restart to get sound working, only upgrading libasound2-data without upgrading libasound2 still breaks the sound.
