Hi, I also think the author is stubborn.

However, there is a workaround and that does not even need a patch or
update. Just set "lock: True" in "$HOME/.xscreensaver":

# XScreenSaver Preferences File
# Workaround stubborn "This version of xscreensaver is VERY OLD! Please
upgrade!" bug

timeout: 0:05:00
cycle: 0:10:00
lock: True
lockTimeout: 0:06:00
passwdTimeout: 0:00:30
splash: False
splashDuration: 0:00:00
fade: False
unfade: False

mode: off

This disables the pop when you login. I don't know why but it works. I
found this out because some of my machines did not have this nagging.

All my systems have been updated with this workaround. Since the stubborn
author may read this and surely this loop hole will be patche dout int he
next version I have decded to abndon "xscreensaver" and switch to
"light-locker". I'll will be rolling out this fix to my systems.

Debian should remove "xscreensaver" and suggest people use "light-locker".
