Here is a simple way to reproduce the bug:

# remove existing data
rm -rf ~/.local/share/gnote
# create some legacy data
mkdir ~/.gnote
then copy the attached file to ~/.gnote/

If you now start gnote, you'll get the crash. In the light of this
simple reproducer and assuming that there are possibly quite a few users
with old data, I'm raising the severity.
