Perhaps you can reproduce it with the attached log file.
This seems to be exactly the same problem.
xterm -fn 6x13 -geometry 43x24 -hold -e cat debbug738794.log
See the dot on the right at line 17 ("I enjoyed ... at his house").
Adding a "clear" does not erase the dot:
xterm -fn 6x13 -geometry 43x24 -hold -e "cat debbug738794.log; clear"
