I can reproduce the issue by:
* switching caja to column view
* opening a folder which has enough files to display columns
* making the browser small enough to invoke the slider at the bottom
The preferences option "All columns have the same width" does not have any
influence
on the erratic behavior. The problem can be resolved by enlarging the browser
window
such that the slider at the bottom of the window vanishes.
