My work-in-progress tree has much improvement in this area and will
certainly not trick you into doing the wrong thing. I don't like the
idea of guessing, very much. It seems like a recipe for exactly the
kind of mistakes this bug report is about. So the new version is
somewhat picker and insists on not guessing.
I'm afraid it's entangled with lots of other stuff so it'll be a
little while before I upload it.
