Just grab it :) (If you need a sponsor, I can help you.) If you want to overhaul the package, there was some work on debhelper integration done a little time ago. Maybe take a look at dh_aspell-simple in dictionareis-common; aspell-it was a model package for that, you should be able to "steal" the relevant pieces from there.
