I am running Jessie with the XFCE desktop, and it seems that groff-base was installed by default but groff was not. On my installation, I noticed that while man pages were listed in the index, their content did not seem to be searchable or previewable. I tried manually running the rclman script to decode a man page: $ /usr/share/recoll/filters/rclman /usr/share/man/man1/mountpoint.1.gz <html> groff: can't find `DESC' file groff:fatal error: invalid device `html' (try installing the `groff' package?) After installing the groff package, everything seems to work correctly - man pages are now searchable and previewable. I have not tested with the newer version of recoll in the sid/testing repositories, but I'm thinking the same issue may exist there.
