Thanks for your input. Could both of you ignore sigpipe at gdb prompt
before getting the trace:
handle SIGPIPE noprint nostop pass

Only then we can tell if this is really the same issue. Thunderbird 45.x
introduced several unrelated crashers unfortunately.
