The new release has an option '--enable-compile-warnings=no',
so it was possible to build the package. But gnome-autogen.sh
still has:

gnome-multi-writer-3.21.90$ grep -r 'GNOME_' ./
./autogen.sh:REQUIRED_AUTOMAKE_VERSION=1.7 GNOME_DATADIR="$gnome_datadir"
USE_GNOME2_MACROS=1 . gnome-autogen.sh

How this affect the program ? I will orphan this package, but
want to give away a good package.
