MySQL Workbench (M-W) can not be built any more:
* 6.3.4 was the last release supporting MySQL 5.6. All later releases
require MySQL 5.7.
* M-W depends on mysql-connector-c++ that also needs MySQL 5.7.
* M-W and mysql-connector-c++ FTBFS with MariaDB.
* M-W depends on libgdal-dev that is built against MariaDB.
MariaDB and MySQL libraries conflict with each other.
Needless to say that Oracle could not care less about MariaDB support...

Most likely MySQL Workbench will not be in Stretch unless someone finds a way
to build it for MariaDB...

Sort of... It needs new upstream capable of maintaining fork...
