I did not look carefully and assumed that you had applied the patch and hence the issue would still exist _with_ the patch.
As soon as I apply the patch to the latest version again, everything works as expected, but without, X crashes. I'll participate in the upstream discussion. The Debian bug report is mainly to raise awareness before the next stable release. Thanks Sebastian
