Shouldn't LANG=C be supported by everything?

This is kind of a problem for scripting use of wormhole, when any
translations of the output need to be avoided. While C.UTF-8 is
available in recent versions of Debian, I doubt it's available widely
elsewhere. For example, it's not available on OSX.
