Since budgie-desktop is defined as BUDGIE:GNOME - nm-applet does not appear in budgie When the original patch was put in network-manager was at version 10.2.x I think - it never displayed correctly. Should have raised a bug-report at the time. OBE anyway since the current latest network-manager works now.
