Initial boot worked: [O] Configure network HW: [ ] Config network: [ ] Detect CD: [O] The CD is detected, but the installer hangs Load installer modules: [E] The CD is detected, but the installer hangs Detect hard drives: [ ] Partition hard drives: [ ] Create file systems: [ ] Mount partitions: [ ] Install base system: [ ] Install boot loader: [ ] Reboot: [ ] Comments/Problems: Trying to install Debian Sarge netinst with debian-installer rc2 on a Zitech PC 1) I boot from the cdrom and type "expert26" 2) I choose "English" as language (Note that English is not my native language, but it's easier to describe everything in english) 3) I choose "Belgium" as country 4) I choose "PC-style" and "Belgian" as keyboard 5) I choose "Detect and mount CDROM" 6) I get a list of Linux kernel modules. The first is piix, the last is isofs. They are all selected and I leave them all selected. I select "Continue" 7) I am at the "Detect and mount CD-ROM" step. Debian-installer asks if it will "Prompt for module parameters?", I answer "No". 8) Debian-installer asks if it should "Start PC card services". Since my machine isn't a laptop, I choose "No". 9) Debian-installer indicates "Unable to load some modules". The full text is "Linux kernel modules needed to drive some of your hardware are not available yet. Simply proceeding with the install may make these modules available later. The unavailable modules, and the devices that need them are: agppart (Intel Corporation 440BX/ZX/DX Host bridge), ide-probe-mod (Linux IDE probe driver), ide-detect (Linux IDE dectection) ide-floppy (Linux IDE floppy)." I select "Continue" 10) The screen becomes blank, except one line at the bottom of the screen, and... Debian-installer hangs. Nothing happens. The machine is stuck. I've tried redoing all of this several times. I've tried to select only piix, floppy, generic, ide-generic, ide-disk, ide-cd, isofs on step 6. Same result: d-i hangs at step 10. You're gonna say "It's probably a hardware issue", but I have tried with two different CD-ROM drives and I have rewritten the netinst CD-image three times: twice on two different CD-RWs, one on a CD-R. The PC doesn't seem to be having hardware problems: it runs Debian woody without any problem. For more information on this PC take a look at http://cgi.ebay.de/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=5165840271 There is also the manufacturer's site: http://www.zitech.dk/ I don't know if it's helpful, it's all in Danish, and I don't know Danish. Any help/comments/feedback would be appreciated :) __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Tired of spam? Yahoo!
