thanks Thinking about this, I came to the conclusion that the proposed solution is insufficient a/ x-terminal-emulator can point to arbitrary terminals where we don't know if they provide the necessary interface (see the comment regarding -x) b/ x-terminal-emulator is set system-wide, whereas you really want the desktop environment set the preferred terminal (giving the user the ability to override this without requiring root privileges).
