Dear maintainer,

I tried to dig in a bit more . I went to the site and saw the example
given. I tried -

[$] dnstraceroute -p 80 debian.org

                           [2:16:59]
dnstraceroute DNS: 192.168.1.1:80, hostname: debian.org, rdatatype: A
Error: Unable to create ICMP socket with unprivileged user. Please run as root.

Just to see if the firewall is complicating things but even port 80
was of no help :(

So it really comes out to being an unprivileged user who can't create
ICMP sockets. As I don't know if there are any security implications
of ICMP sockets being created by root will leave you to it.
