The recent Compiz update reset my CompizConfig defaults. It was OK because I had my preferences backed up.
What desktop environment are you using ? I think you are using Mate.
But I don't think that should happen.
We have resolve a bug inside the previous Compiz release so now the profile is stored at the right place for the Mate user. Before that the new user has to configure Compiz manually.
The issue shouldn't happen in the future. This issue is only related to a previous bug introduced in the new Debian Compiz package.
