Thanks for making me aware of this. I now had a quick look at flite 1.3. There seems to be a bug in the Makefiles which prevents the building of shared libraries, which seems to be induced by the new build system structure. For Debian, we definitely need shared libraries. I'll have to find time to walk all this Make magic to find the actual problem. If you have any interest in thsi update happening soon, you could try to provide a patch for this specific issue.
