severity 861925 wishlist tags 861925 + wontfix thanks Hi Julian
Thank you for this suggestion. I agree with you that this would have been the best, but you have to consider the history of this software. When cron-apt was developed (a long long time ago) there were no cron-job included in apt. This is why I developed this function. A few years ago I was informed that apt have this cron functionality documented and were considering to drop the cron-apt package (removing it from the archives) but there were cron-apt users complaining. They did not want the apt cron functionality due to various reasons. The cron-apt functionality allow a few things not possible with current apt cron functionality. I think one of the aspects was the easy of activation, just install the package. At least if I remember correctly. I can dig up more reasons if you are really interested. So again, thank you for your suggestion. However this has already been considered. I would say like this. I will not actively develop cron-apt further, at least not without contribution from other people. So in essence the cron functionality in the apt package is what will change and hence that could hopefully incorporate everything that cron-apt can. When that happen I will simply make the cron-apt a transitional package or just a package that include one or a few config files. I guess this may take some time before that happens.
