Though, as back then I wasn't able to reproduce it myself for some weird reason, I'd like to ask you to try and see whether the package you can find in jessie-backport present the same issue. The traceback you reported was without the debug symbol installed (that well, aren't available in jessie, as we introduced them in stretch… so not really anything you can do about it), so there are not many information available, but at least it seem to crash "near" that point.
